A disabled boy has been pulled from his wheelchair and beaten at a school in Swindon.

Teachers have launched an urgent investigation following the assault on a 14-year-old wheelchair user, which took place on Wednesday (2 July).

Footage shared by the victim’s mum on social media shows part of the incident at The Commonweal School – where it appears a fellow pupil kicks him in the head.

However, what happened prior to the attack being filmed is unclear at this stage.

The boy’s mum said that her son was “forced out of his wheelchair and thrown to the ground”.

She added that he was then “punched and kicked to the head by other pupils at his, what is supposed to be, ‘a safe place’ school”.

“I am absolutely heartbroken to have received these videos and also incredibly angry”, the parent continued.

The Commonweal School confirmed that it is aware of the video being circulated online – and is taking the matter seriously.

A spokesperson said: “All young people have a right to confidentiality. The Commonweal School cannot therefore comment on any specific incidents involving young people.

“We are aware of a video circulating on social media and the incident it shows a part of. We are taking this incident very seriously.

“We are investigating in detail, liaising with parents/carers and other agencies, and will respond appropriately.”

It is not yet known if any police investigation is underway.
