A mental health patient who climbed onto rooftops in Devizes has been detained.
The man, aged in his 20s, sparked a significant emergency response when he took up residence on Green Lane Hospital at around 4am on Wednesday (11 June).
Around 15 police officers, numerous ambulance staff and a fire crew attended the psychiatric facility in a bid to remove him from the roof safely.
Despite negotiations by specially-trained teams, the man refused to come down – and remained there overnight.
Then, at around 5am, the man jumped off the hospital roof and fled from officers. He proceeded to climb onto the roof of a house 500 metres away, in Reeves Road.
As heavy rain fell – approximately 32 hours after the incident began – the man came down.
He was detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act.
In an update, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are pleased to report that the incident involving a patient from Green Lane Hospital has now been resolved safely.
“Thank you for your patience while this was dealt with.”
