A serious crash has shut a Swindon road – as a biker is airlifted to hospital.

Emergency services responded to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision in Okus Road shortly before 4pm this afternoon (Tuesday).

The incident involved a KTM 125 motorcycle, a car – a blue Nissan – and a garden wall on the junction for Curie Avenue.

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance landed at Commonweal School, before the charity’s critical care medics treated the biker, a 19-year-old man.

Local ambulance crews and numerous police units were also sent to the scene. Officers cordoned off the junction in all directions.

The injured man’s motorcycle came to rest in the garden of a house nearby, while two shoes can be seen strewn across the road.

After stabilising the casualty, he was airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for urgent treatment. He is in a serious condition, and his next of kin is aware.

The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 40s, was uninjured.

A forensic collision investigation has been launched by Wiltshire Police – with work expected to continue into the early hours of Wednesday (11 June).

Contrary to reports by another news outlet, there is no glass within the scene. There is however a motorcycle helmet, clothing, bricks, and a pool of blood.

Okus Road is closed between Portland Avenue and the area of Tithe Barn Crescent. Curie Avenue is also closed at Okus Road.

Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 185 of today’s date.

Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at [email protected].
