A man ‘in distress’ on a Swindon roof has sparked a major 999 response in the town centre.
Emergency services were called to Newhall Street, off Crombey Street, at around 9am this morning (Sunday).
At least five police vehicles are parked at the scene of the welfare incident, alongside ambulances and fire crews.
An aerial ladder platform appliance had taken two police officers up to negotiate with the man, who is reportedly in distress on a rooftop.
Newhall Street and Combey Street have been closed to motorists. It remained closed at 11.30am.
In a statement at around midday, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police: “We are currently dealing with an incident in the Newhall area of Swindon.
“Multiple officers are in attendance but we would like to reassure the community that there is no risk to the general public.
“We would urge people to avoid the area.”
