Guns were reportedly found after a pursuit ended in a crash on an M4 junction in Wiltshire in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

Avon and Somerset Police were chasing a black Audi Q3 along the motorway when the driver exited at Junction 17 at around 2.50am.

The authorised pursuit came to an end when the car crashed, flipping multiple times and coming to rest on its wheels. Nobody was injured.

Officers were chasing the vehicle in connection with an ongoing aggravated burglary – which took place in the Gwent area of Wales.

Following the incident, a man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, possession of firearms and dangerous driving. He remains in custody.

Items were forensically recovered from grass

It’s understood the scene on Junction 17 contains guns, some of which were scattered from the vehicle when it overturned.

Wiltshire-based South West Forensics staff are carrying out examinations of the area – and are due to forensically recover the weapons.

Armed police remain on the cordon, guarding the site as investigations continue.

Junction 17 remains partially closed this afternoon – with motorists going northbound on the A350 being diverted onto the motorway westbound.

This map shows where closures are in place:

A damaged black Nissan Juke also appears within the crime scene – however, it’s not clear why. Gwent Police confirmed that only one car was involved in the incident.

Road closures are likely to remain in place into the late afternoon/evening.
