UPDATE: Man kept ‘incredibly malnourished’ dog in poo-ridden home

A Calne man has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a dog.

Paul Brewster is accused of two animal welfare offences, and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Wednesday, 30 April).

The 38-year-old faces an allegation of causing unnecessary suffering to a Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog named Rusty.

It’s claimed the dog was kept malnourished, the defendant failed to adequately care for the dog and did not obtain treatment for disease.

Brewster is also accused of not taking reasonable steps to ensure the Rusty’s needs were met by failing to provide adequate food and water.

Both offences come under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, with the second carrying a maximum sentence of up to 51 weeks imprisonment.
