Dogs have ‘ripped a lamb out of a pregnant sheep’ during an attack in the Wiltshire countryside on Friday (21 March).

The incident, which took place in the vicinity of Fonthill Estate, was captured on camera by a passing motorist travelling along the A303.

Two dogs, believed to be labradors, were said to be “in a complete frenzy” – repeatedly attacking the sheep.

Several members of the public reportedly stopped their vehicles and attempted to access the field in order to stop the attack. It’s not clear if anyone was able to intervene.

Farmer Keith Darling explained that the sheep were just three weeks from lambing.

He said the “dogs ripped her open”, resulting in one of the lambs being removed.

Mr Darling said the matter was reported to Wiltshire Police. Anyone with information should call 101.

It’s unclear if the ewe or her lamb survived the attack.

On social media, people called for the dogs to be shot dead.

“Hopefully the dogs were SHOT!”, one exclaimed. Adding: “…or been caught and the owner will be prosecuted, and should be banned from keeping dogs for life.”

Another said: “Only one way to solve that situation.. a round straight to the chest of the dogs unfortunately. When will people learn to keep them on leads.”
