A warning has been issued after another child was ‘approached by a man’ in Chippenham.

Following a possible abduction attempt in the Woodlands Road area on Wednesday afternoon (29 January), a second similar incident has been reported to the police.

The first incident reportedly involved a 12-year-old boy, who fought off a masked attacker as he walked home from school shortly after 3pm.

This morning (Thursday), it’s claimed a student was approached in concerning circumstances near Chippenham railway station at around 8.15am.

In a letter, Sheldon School head Peter Lynch said: “We have been made aware by the police of two incidents that occurred at the end of the school day yesterday and this morning while two of our students were traveling to and from school.

“The students were approached by an unknown man near Woodlands Road (Donkey Field exit of the school) yesterday at 3:15 p.m. and this morning at 8:15 a.m. near Chippenham Train Station.

“The police are actively investigating these incidents, and we will keep you informed of any further developments.

“Until we receive more information, we strongly advise that students walk in groups whenever possible and stay in well-lit areas.

“The school will be reinforcing this message with all students throughout the day. In addition, senior staff will be present at key exits at the end of the school day to provide extra reassurance.

“We kindly ask that you speak to your child about these incidents, offering appropriate advice on personal safety and awareness. If your child notices anything suspicious, they should report it to the police immediately using the crime reference number 54250011941.

“The safety of our students remains our highest priority, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.

“If you have any concerns or relevant information, please do not hesitate to contact the police.”

Wiltshire Police has been approached for a statement on the second incident.
