A driver’s been arrested after a ‘dangerous’ pursuit around Chippenham.
The Hyundai i10 failed to stop for roads policing officers – leading to a chase at around 10pm last night (Monday, 6 January).
A member of the public, who was caught up in the incident, said they had met police during the pursuit twice in the area.
The first time was at the exit from the Premier Inn, off the A350, and the second time was in the Maud Heath’s Causeway area – near the entrance to Wavin.
Officers deployed a stinger and both a dog unit and armed police were sent to assist. They managed to prevent the driver going the wrong way down the M4.
The driver, a 34-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, aggravated taking a vehicle without consent, and drug driving.
A quantity of white powder was located in the vehicle, and the suspect was further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. He remains in custody for questioning.
In a post on social media, a Specialist Operations spokesperson wrote: “All hands on deck after the Hyundai failed to stop for [Roads Policing Unit] in Chippenham.
“Stinger deployed by [Wiltshire Police Dogs] and [Armed Response Vehicle] were there to assist in preventing the car going the wrong way down the M4!!
“Many offences and an overnight stay in custody!”
