A cyclist has been seriously hurt after he was hit by a balaclava-clad ‘motorcyclist’.

The man, aged in his 40s, was on the cycle path outside B&Q in Great Western Way at around 1.30pm when the incident happened on Monday 2 December.

The cyclist was struck by a dirt bike, which was being ridden by a person wearing dark clothing – including a balaclava, and was not sporting a helmet.

Following the road traffic collision, the rider ran from the scene pushing their damaged bike – which is described as being gold in colour.

Members of the public stopped the help the victim, who sustained numerous injuries – including multiple breaks to both arms.

With no ambulances available to respond, a Good Samaritan rushed him to hospital in his car.

Wiltshire Police described the victim’s injures as “potentially life-changing”.

In a statement, the force said: “Two members of the public stopped to help, with one of them taking the cyclist to hospital.

“The motorcyclist failed to stop at the scene. They are described as wearing a balaclava, dark top and blue tracksuit bottoms. They weren’t wearing a helmet.

“The motorcycle is described as a dirt bike, blue and gold in colour.

“Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam, or who may know anyone owning a bike matching the description, is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 175 of December 4, the day which the incident was reported to us.

“Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at [email protected].”
