Live updates: Police swarm Swindon woodland amid incident

Police have swarmed a woodland in Swindon amid an incident – scroll down for live updates.

At least ten emergency vehicles were at Stratton Woods, off Kingsdown Road, at around 2pm this afternoon (Wednesday), with five remaining on scene at 3.30pm.

The nature reserve, popular with dog walkers, has been partially cordoned off. Around half the woodland is being guarded by police.

7pm: Wiltshire Police say the blood was human – from a man who sustained injuries during a mental health episode overnight. He is now receiving hospital care. The ambulance service contacted the police following news of the incident, informing them about the blood loss.

5.30pm: A member of the public has reported that a dog was severely injured by barbed wire in the woods – and this has been reported to police. They are currently working to establish if the blood is a result of this incident, and if it occurred in the same spot.

3.45pm: Wiltshire Police say a member of the public discovered blood, prompting a police investigation. Read the full police statement here >

3.40pm: People are still able to access and park in the car park – with several dog walkers continuing about their business as usual. They are being asked to keep the the right of the woodland.

3.15pm: Officers appeared to be stood around in the middle of the woodland. There appears to be little action.

2.30pm: A specialist officer has deployed a drone at the scene – searching the area from above.

2pm: It’s understood emergency services arrived at around 2pm, but the exact time as not been confirmed. It’s thought the incident relates to a concern for someone’s safety.
