A violent offender has been recalled to prison after an incident at a pub in Melksham.

Police were called to The Bear, a Wetherspoons, in High Street at around 2.30pm on Friday (2 August).

A disorder had broken out at the establishment, with three people – two women and a man – arrested on suspicion of assault.

Mark Oldfield – who is subject to a lifetime parole order for stabbing his girlfriend in 2006 – was charged with numerous offences.

In that incident, the victim was knifed 30 times before he headbutted her and attempted to set her on fire using an aerosol and a lighter.

The 50-year-old, of Hurricane Road, Melksham, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker, assaulting a person who was assisting a police officer and making threats to kill.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Monday (5 August), he was jailed for 14 days and recalled to prison.

A 43-year-old woman and a 35-year-old woman were both given community resolutions.
