Police officers have been strimming bushes and searching an alpaca farm in Wiltshire.

But don’t worry, it wasn’t part of an ongoing investigation – it was a training exercise.

Around 20 officers were spotted rooting through undergrowth at Lane House Alpaca Farm in Dauntsey for most of Wednesday (24 April).

Specialist search officers – who are often deployed to find vital evidence in criminal investigations – have to be assessed to ensure they’re up to standard.

With the agreement of the farm owners, the team were tasked with locating items that had been strategically placed in the area as part of the exercise.

“Everybody’s a winner here; they get gardening and we get a bit of practice”, an inspector taking part in the exercise told Wiltshire 999s.

The presence of so many police officers in Sodom Lane – armed with sticks, strimmers and rakes – sparked the attention of passing drivers and local residents.
