Firefighters have rescued a child from a ‘fast-flowing’ river in Wiltshire.
Emergency services were called to the River Nadder, off Lower Road in Bemerton, Salisbury, at around 5.20pm yesterday afternoon (Sunday, 17 March).
A number of children reportedly got into trouble in the water, with one hanging onto a tree to avoid being swept downstream by the current.
Fire crews from Salisbury and Wilton, supported by installed measures to ensure that if the child were to let go, they would be able to catch them.
Specialist water rescue teams were deployed, including one from Poole in Dorset and another from Fareham in Hampshire.
On arrival, they “quickly managed to rescue the casualty out of the water and away from any danger”, according to a Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.
The child was left in the care of the ambulance service. It’s not clear if they were taken to hospital for further care.
