Rogue taxi driver in Salisbury attempts to ‘kiss and touch’ women

An investigation into incidents involving a ‘taxi driver’ in Salisbury continues.

Police appealed for information last year following an incident where a ‘taxi driver’ was reported to have touched a woman inappropriately in the early hours of 26 November 2016.

Two further victims have come forward and reported incidents in which they were touched inappropriately by a ‘taxi driver’. One incident occurred on the same day as the first incident on 26 November 2016, the third victim was assaulted on 12 February 2017.

A 39-year-old local man was arrested in relation to one of the incidents and subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

In each incident the offender is purporting to be a taxi driver working in Salisbury City Centre in the early hours of the morning at the weekend.

The victims were all women who were on their own at the time and describe the man trying to kiss them or touch them when they reached their destination.

PC Jeannette Brownsea said: “We are working to establish whether all three incidents are connected but clearly this is a worrying set of circumstances.

“We are carrying out a number of enquiries locally and are in contact with the taxi companies. Even though an arrest has been made we need to hear from anyone who has any information.

If you are using a taxi late at night or in the early hours of the morning try to plan ahead to make sure you book a licensed taxi, or attend an official taxi rank in the City Centre.

“Try to stay with friends and share a taxi home with them where possible. If you are at all worried or concerned during a journey or please call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Jeannette Brownsea on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 where information may be left anonymously if preferred.
