A motorcyclist has died after a crash on the A342 near Chippenham.

Emergency services, including Wiltshire Air Ambulance, were called to the scene in Old Derry Hill at around 1.30pm yesterday (Sunday, 3 March).

The incident involved a black Mercedes GLA 200 and a motorcycle – which appears to have impacted the front of the car head-on.

The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 60s, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

Despite treatment from medics on scene and at the Major Trauma Centre, he was later pronounced dead. His family are aware.

The two occupants of the car were uninjured and taken home by the police. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Old Derry Hill was closed in both directions for forensic collision investigation work overnight, but has since reopened.

Any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who may have dashcam footage, should call the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 and quote log number 144 of 3 March. Alternatively, email them directly on [email protected].
