An XL Bully living in Calne may be put down if her owner doesn’t keep her under control.

Daniel Thomas appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 2 February after a complaint was laid about his dog being dangerously out of control around a young girl in October last year.

The 32-year-old was previously given a Community Protection Notice, similar to an ASBO, commanding him to keep the pet – named Duchess – under control and supervised at all times.

The defendant, of North End, Calne, consented to an order under Section 2 of the Dogs Act 1871 – which states the dog “is to be kept under proper control or destroyed”.

The court ordered Thomas to:

1. Fit the dog with a muzzle sufficient to prevent it biting any person

2. Muzzle the dog in public at all times

3. Secure his property at all times to prevent the dog escaping

4. Not allow anyone under the age of 18 to walk the dog

Breaching the order in any way could result in Duchess being destroyed.

Action was initially taken by Wiltshire Police after concerns that the XL Bully had been seen repeatedly roaming the local area unaccompanied and walking into the road.

It had also been spotted attempting to enter other residents’ homes and causing fear to other members of the public, including a young child.
