A man’s sustained significant injuries after being stabbed with a chisel in Amesbury.

Emergency services were called to Sandell Place following the attack on Thursday (25 January).

The victim, a man aged in his 30s, sustained wounds to his arm – which required surgery. One stab wound was so deep it damaged tendons and is likely to be life-changing.

Martin John Worrall was arrested by police in connection with the incident, and was subsequently charged him with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 34-year-old Salisbury man, of no fixed abode, was also charged with possessing an offensive weapon – namely a chisel – in a public place.

Worrall was remanded in police custody and put before Salisbury Magistrates’ Court this morning (Monday), where he was not required to enter pleas.

The prosecutor said that a group of three males wearing plastic multi-coloured masks barged into the victim’s home – before launching a violence assault.

It’s alleged that Worrall attempted to stab the victim in the head with a bladed weapon. The victim is said to have held his arms up to defend himself and that’s when he sustained his injuries.

The prosecutor described one of his wounds as “exceptionally deep” and said the victim told police that he was “fearful he was going to be killed”.

During the course of the police investigation, officers located a chisel in the car park close to a Co-op store – and it is believed to be the weapon used.

Magistrates released Worrall on bail, with conditions to live and sleep at a friend’s address in Salisbury, not to contact the victim and not to enter Amesbury.

He is due to appear at Salisbury Crown Court for a plea hearing on 24 February.

Another man arrested in connection with the attack has been released under investigation. No other arrests have been made.
