A cyclist struck by a car in Melksham has been airlifted to hospital in critical condition.

Emergency services were called to the serious road traffic collision on the A350 at around 8.30pm yesterday evening (Friday, 3 November).

With the Wiltshire Air Ambulance helicopter offline for servicing and maintenance since 27 September, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance were tasked to the scene.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 50s, sustained significant injuries on being hit by a car – and was treated at the roadside by local ambulance crews and critical care medics.

He was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, a regional major trauma centre, for urgent treatment. He was said to be in a life-threatening condition.

A detailed forensic collision investigation was carried out at the scene overnight.

The major route was closed between Hampton Park West and Semington, and reopened at approximately 6am this morning (Saturday).

If you saw what happened or have dashcam footage, please contact the Serious Collision Investigation Yeam on 01225 694597 quoting log 345 of 3 November. Alternatively, email [email protected].
