Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed for a crash in Melksham yesterday evening.

A man, who an eyewitness says appeared to be highly intoxicated, stepped out in front of a car which subsequently collided with him on Bank Street at around 7,30pm on Monday, 22 January.

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene alongside air ambulance medics.

A car at the scene of the crash has a large ‘bullseye’ dent in the windscreen.

The helicopter had touched down on King George Playing Fields, leaving the scene at 8.30pm.

He was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath, but didn’t suffer any serious injury.

A police spokesperson said: “Wiltshire Police were called to a road traffic collision where a pedestrian had been hit by a car outside The Bear pub in Bath Road, Melksham, at 7.33pm last night.

“Officers attended and assisted paramedics with getting the injured man, who was in his 60s, into an ambulance. His injuries were not thought to be serious.”

The road was reopened to all traffic at just before 9pm.
