Police are seeking to reassure the public as numerous Swindon officers are deployed elsewhere.

Neighbourhood officers from across the town will be attending WOMAD Festival at Charlton Park, near Malmesbury, for the four-day event that ends on Sunday (30 July).

Wiltshire Police says “colleagues from Response and other members of our [Neighbourhood Policing] Team working hard to make sure you are safe whilst we are here”.

Police statement in full

“Officers from the Swindon Neighbourhood Teams, including your Stratton, Central Swindon North and West Swindon NPT, are supporting the WOMAD (World of Music and Dance) Festival currently taking place at Charlton Park near Malmesbury.

“Held over 4 days, the festival concludes on Sunday and brings together many forms of the arts from different countries and cultures from over the globe.

“The police are here to support the event organisers in delivering a safe event as well as manage an incidents that we may need to. Even better, we get to meet some many different people from near and far who have travelled to experience what the 4 days has to offer.

“If you are here, we would love for you to come and say hello if you see us out and about. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time so far.

“We would also like to reassure our residents that Swindon still has our colleagues from Response and other members of our [Neighbourhood Policing] Team working hard to make sure you are safe whilst we are here.”
