A man killed in a crash in Swindon over the weekend has been named locally.

Emergency services were called to reports of a car colliding with a tree on Kingsdown Road at around 9.45pm on Saturday (17 June).

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was among the many 999 resources sent to the fatal incident close to the entrance to Kingsdown Crematorium.

Despite the best efforts of first responders, passenger Paul Morton, a father aged in his 40s and from Swindon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family and friends have attended the crash site, leaving numerous tributes on and around the tree.

A ‘RIP Paul’ signed Liverpool FC shirt was hung on a branch alongside flowers and Desperados beer bottles. Father’s Day cards were also left at the scene.

On social media, his daughter Danielle wrote “Party hard up there dad, I love you so much!” and shared photos of the tributes left on Kingsdown Road.

The driver of the car involved, a woman aged in her 40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

Wiltshire Police has today (Tuesday) confirmed that she has been released on bail as officers continue their investigation into events that evening.
