A man’s been killed in a head-on crash on the A4 near Avebury, it has been confirmed.

Emergency services, including Wiltshire Air Ambulance, attended the road traffic collision at East Kennett at around 12.10pm this afternoon (Bank Holiday Monday).

It involved a red Land Rover Discovery and a white Vauxhall van.

The driver of the van, a man aged in his 50s from Marlborough, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and is being supported by a specially-training officer.

The front-seat passenger in the Discovery, a woman in her 50s, was taken to hospital with a suspect fractured back. Her injuries aren’t said to be life-threatening.

The male driver of the Discovery sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The major road, between Beckhampton and Marlborough, has been closed in both directions for forensic collision investigation work.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time and we request that their privacy is respected”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.

Adding: “The road has been closed for the afternoon while emergency services carry out their investigations.

“If you saw what happened please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 54230056044.”
