UPDATE: Three people arrested after man ‘stabbed to death’ Bath city centre

A murder probe is underway in Bath city centre following an incident overnight.

Police cordoned off Southgate Street and St James Parade this morning (Saturday) as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.

At least six forensic investigations were on scene at midday, combing the area for evidence – including alleys, drains and bins.

An police underwater search unit appears to be parked up in Broad Quay, which suggests that officers may also trawl the River Avon in due course.

At least eight forensic investigators were counted on scene

Investigators appear to be focused on McDonald’s – with forensic work ongoing both immediately outside and within the establishment.

Numerous people – including a group of young women – have attended the crime scene to lay flowers for their loved one.

The cordon is expected to remain in place for the next 48 hours.

It is believed the incident took place either late last night (Friday 5 May) or in the early hours of this morning.

At this early stage, details about the victim are unknown. Avon and Somerset Police have been approached for comment.

A spokesperson for SouthGate Bath said: “ Customers visiting SouthGate Bath are advised to avoid the lower end of SouthGate Street due to road closures as a result of an ongoing police investigation.

“There is currently no access to The Gym Group, Morrisons, Timpson, Greggs, Krispy Kreme, Burger King, Smash Burger, Barclays, and the SouthGate Bath car park.

“Visitors will need to use alternative parking. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
