Emergency services are currently in attendance of a severe house fire near Malmesbury.
The property blaze, in the village of Lea, broke out at around midday today (Sunday), with at least eight fire engines called to tackle the raging flames.
Wiltshire Police also has a number of units at the scene – with a 100-metre cordon in place, preventing the public from accessing the area whilst 999 crews work.
By 5.30pm the flames were out – but firefighters remained working on the large detached home. The fire has caused around a quarter of the building’s roof to collapse inwards.
Forensic investigators, from both Wiltshire Police and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS), are on-site ready to probe the cause of the blaze.
In a short message on social media, DWFRS said: “We’re currently in attendance at a significant fire in Lea. “Please avoid the area where possible whilst firefighters bring the incident under control.”
Wiltshire Police said that efforts were ongoing to “establish the welfare of the believed occupant”, with a police and fire service presence likely to remain overnight.
