Emergency services are dealing with crashes across the country as black ice starts to form on some routes.

A car overturned at the bottom of Sandridge Hill, Melksham, at around 6pm this evening (Monday).

Police are dealing with a vehicle that has struck and mounted the central reservation on the A350 towards Junction 17 of the M4. The road is open and there are no traffic delays.

In Devizes, police say they’re responding to numerous reports of road traffic collisions in the area – including the A432 at Wedhampton and the A361 at Seend.

Several vehicles are said to have slid and crashes on ice in Westbury Road, Little Cheverall.

In the north, emergency services are at a crash on the Callow Hill Crossroads on the B4042.

With temperatures dropping below freezing overnight, motorists are warned that flood water could turn to ice.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Our call handlers have received significant numbers of calls regarding black ice on roads across the county this evening.

”Emergency services are extremely busy dealing with these incidents currently – if you are thinking of heading out this evening, please consider whether or not your journey is essential. If so, please take extra care and be mindful of these weather conditions.”

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said it has crews at a total of eight road traffic collisions.
