Paramedics rushed a Center Parcs guest to hospital following a serious assault on Wednesday (11 January).

Emergency services were called to the Longleat Forest resort in Warminster after a woman presented at reception with injuries, Salisbury Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday (13 January).

The alleged perpetrator of the violence, 25-year-old Daniel Bennett, of Goldney Avenue, Warmley, was arrested following the incident, crown prosecutor David Foster said.

The defendant, who stood in the dock wearing a grey custody-issue tracksuit and a heavily tattooed neck, is accused of launching the attack whilst on holiday with the alleged victim – said to be his girlfriend of six months.

Mr Foster alleged the pair had been drinking before returning to their accommodation, where Bennett’s claimed to have accused her of cheating on him. He’s alleged to have repeatedly struck the woman in her face and held her down by her neck until she struggled to breathe.

After attending the resort’s reception with facial injuries, paramedics were called to the scene and the woman was rushed to hospital for further assessment.

No pleas were entered to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and non-fatal strangulation. Mr Foster said the case should be dealt with at a crown court.

Harriet Heard, defending, agreed the case should be sent up – and made no further representations.

Mr Foster asked for Bennett to be remanded in custody, adding that he is due to be recalled to prison.

The magistrates adjourned the case to Salisbury Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 15 February. The defendant was remanded in custody.
