A man who was found dead at home has been named locally as a respected local barber.
Police were called to concerns for the welfare of a man at an address in Westrop, Highworth, yesterday morning (Wednesday, 22 December).
After gaining entry, officers found Ian Jeffries, who owned Gents Hairdressing in Lechlade, deceased. He was aged in his 70s, according to Wiltshire Police.
On social media, friends have confirmed his death publicly – with tributes paid to the dedicated barber, who was cutting hair in the weeks leading up to his passing.
One customer said Ian was “always chatty and was a really lovely man”. They told of how his shop, off the A361, was closed around four weeks ago.
“He was always busy in there and quite often people were queuing up. [The shop] had no heating, he just used a little electric fire and was always reading the newspaper or doing a sudoku.”
Another customer said: “R i p ian lovely man would be in his barbers shop ages getting my hair cut and listening to his stories of his younger life he had around Lechlade. Rest in peace good man”.
Someone else wrote: “RIP Ian I will miss having you cut my hair and then Chatting and putting the world to rights.”
Another penned: “Such sad news has cut my hair for many years probably about 40 when I used to go down with my dad rest in peace Ian you will be missed.”
