A woman suffered head injuries in a two-vehicle crash on the A4 yesterday (Wednesday, 21 December).

Emergency services, including Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s critical care medics, were called to the road traffic collision in Derry Hill, near Chippenham, at around 7pm.

Two vehicles, one of which was a black Volkswagen Golf, were involved in the incident. It’s believed that firefighters were forced to remove the roof to extricate a casualty.

A female was rushed to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon with head injuries. Wiltshire Police say her injuries aren’t thought to be life-threatening.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “A female driving one of the cars sustained head injuries and was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.”

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters from Chippenham and Calne were called to a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A4 at Derry Hill at 7.23pm.

“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to release one female casualty from a car. They also supported the ambulance service with casualty care.

“The stop message was received at 8.07pm and fire crews returned to their stations by 8.39pm.”
