Wiltshire Police is asking people to ‘keep away’ from an icy pond in Devizes.

It comes after officers responded to reports of a dead swan on The Crammer, on A361 Estcourt Street, yesterday evening (Tuesday, 14 December).

In a statement, a force spokesperson said: “Sadly we have taken a report of a dead Swan on the Crammer in Devizes this evening.

“The Council, RSPBA, Defra and Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital have all been notified.

“Please keep away from the area as it is icy, this will be dealt with by the appropriate agency.”

Councillor Iain Wallis added that it’s not yet clear how the swan came to die – but couldn’t rule out and attack or bird flu.

He said: “We don’t know how it died. There is no obvious sign it has been attacked and we don’t know if it’s avian flu.

“It has been properly reported and when I went past just now the police were there so please let’s leave it to the professionals to recover it and check for avian flu.”
