A report of a man with a gun and a knife in Swindon has sparked a police response.

Officers were deployed to the area following a 999 call reporting that a group of youngsters claim to have seen a man with deadly weapons shortly after 4pm today (23 February).

The caller claims the children ran up to her at Buckhurst Field, Walcot, and disclosed that there was a male in possession of a gun and a knife.

She immediately phoned 999 and Wiltshire Police reportedly sent officers to investigate.

“I just had two young lads come up to me scared”, the worried local resident told Wiltshire 999s.

Adding that they claimed to have seen a man “with a big knife and a gun”.

UPDATE 7PM: Wiltshire 999s understands that local police officers carried out searches in the area but did not locate the suspect.

“At 4.20pm yesterday, we received a third-party report that a group of males had been seen in the Buckhurst Park area with weapons”, a force spokesperson said.

“Officers attended the scene but there was no trace of the individuals.”
