Emergency services are currently attending a serious crash near Trowbridge.

The road traffic collision – involving a van and a car – occurred on the A361 near Southwick Country Park at around 11am this morning (10 January).

The busy A-road has been closed in both directions to vehicles and pedestrians whilst emergency responders work at the scene.

At least one patient has been taken to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital by Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The helicopter touched down at the Bristol hospital shortly before 12.30pm.

Wiltshire Police says the road will be closed for “some time”, with a forensic collision investigation unit in attendance.

Collision investigation work usually begins once all patients have been taken to hospital and it could take more than five hours.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed three people were extricated from a van and car by firefighters from the Trowbridge station.

Hope Nature Centre cafe staff are providing hot drinks to the emergency services at the crash site. The centre remains open – the main cordon is immediately after the car park.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision on Frome Road in Southwick, near Trowbridge.

“We were called to the scene shortly after 11am today (10/01) and a section of the road has been closed between College Road and Wynsome Street.

“We would urge people to avoid the area and find alternative routes at this time.”
