A Swindon woman who died falling from a bridge as been named locally.

Mia Fahy, 19, was pronounced dead after falling from Croft Road bridge – a route which connects Swindon with Wroughton – earlier this month.

Emergency services responded to reports of a person falling onto the M4 motorway at around 5.30am on Sunday, 5 December.

On 12 December, family and friends came together at Lawn Woods to release lanterns in tribute to Mia, who was described as an “absolute light in life” and as having the “most beautiful smile”.

Written tributes flowed in on social media, whilst dozens of bunches of flowers were tied to the bridge above where she died.

Stephanie Small wrote: “Rest in peace Mia … you were an absolute light in life and I’ll miss seeing your beautiful face, I can’t believe this news and I’m so sorry for how you must have felt, I hope you are at ease now and I will never forget about you.”

“May you rest in paradise you gorgeous gorgeous soul, our memories will forever be cherished, I am so sorry you had to feel the way you did”, Emily-Jane Rawlings said.

Jade Louise wrote: “I’m so sorry that you felt you had no choice but to end your life. Mental health is such a strong thing to deal with as I know for myself. I’m so very sorry to Mia friends and family for your loss R.I.P beautiful girl xxx”

Croft Road was partially closed whilst police investigated the incident and to avoid any pedestrians or motorists viewing the scene below.

The M4 was shut between junction 15 and 16 for around ten hours whilst forensic work was undertaken following the tragedy.

At the time, Wiltshire Police said it was not treating Mia’s death as suspicious.

Officers are appealing for information or anyone who recorded dashcam footage in the lead up to the fatality to contact them on 101 and quote log 85 of 5 December.
