A teenager assaulted two police officers after she was found screaming and shouting on the floor having spent the night partying at Tree Nightclub.

Appearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today, Megan Martin, 18, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker and one count of possessing cannabis.

Crown prosecutor Keith Ballinger said the defendant, of Tydeman Street, Gorse Hill, was detained by PCs Baker and Newman at 3.10am on 2 October this year.

The drunk and disorderly arrest was made after she was located in Newport Street where she was seen to lunge into a group of people before lying on the floor screaming and shouting.

On arriving at Gablecross custody, Martin kicked PC Baker’s leg and pinched PC Newham.

Due to her volatile nature, the custody sergeant deemed it necessary to take her immediately to her cell, where she was kept under observation.

When she was interviewed that day, Martin claimed she could not remember anything about the incident but accepts it must have happened.

She said she consumed a large amount of vodka from 9pm the previous night and the last thing she remembers is being in the Tree Nightclub toilets.

Tony Nowogrodzki, defending, said his client had lost her job as a care worker after she failed to arrive for her shift and subsequently came clean about her offending.

“She is very remorseful, she’s been very tearful in the company of her parents”, he told the court.

Adding: “You won’t be seeing this lady again, she has learnt her lesson the hard way.”

Mr Nowogrodzki said Martin is currently unemployed but hopes to attain a similar job in the care sector.

“She hopes to get a similar role in the future, but a conviction for violence will follow her around. It will affect her future employment and that is a significant punishment in itself.”

Martin was ordered to pay £50 compensation to each injured police officer and must complete an eight-week GPS monitored curfew between the hours of 7pm and 6am daily.

A charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place was dropped by the prosecution.
