A Swindon woman has appeared in court accused of lying about a crash in a police statement.

Layjah Stratford, 19, indicated a guilty plea to perverting the course of justice at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (16 November).

The defendant, of Croft Road, is alleged to have made a false police statement regarding the driver of a car involved in a road traffic collision on the B4040 in north Wiltshire.

The incident saw a Nissan Qashqai crash into a telegraph pole in Leigh, west of Cricklade, at around 1.30am on 19 June this year.

An offence of this nature can only be heard by a judge. The case was adjourned and Stratford will next appear at Swindon Crown Court on 17 December.

In relation to the same incident, Charlie Goble, 24, of Worcester Parade, Gloucester, failed to attend court to answer charges of perverting the course of justice, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

Magistrates issued a warrant without bail, meaning police will be tasked with locating Goble, arresting her and putting her before the next available court.
