A large crime scene is in place after a man was reportedly stabbed near Trowbridge.

Police officers are guarding the Southwick Village Hall car park and playing field, off Frome Road, Southwick, following a serious incident shortly before 10pm last night (29 September).

The Southwick neighbourhood plan referendum polling station was moved to the Southwick and North Bradley Scout Group building, further down Frome Road, due to the crime scene.

Wiltshire 999s understands a man was rushed to hospital with stab wounds sustained during a 50-person fight at the establishment.

Armed officers were deployed to the incident and the National Police Air Service helicopter from Bristol was deployed.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed nearby a short time later, where it’s believed the charity’s critical care paramedics accompanied the casualty to Southmead Hospital by land ambulance. He remains in a life-threatening condition.

Shortly after the incident, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Police in Trowbridge are currently dealing with a serious assault in the Southwick area.

“Officers were called to a disorder at the Southwick Sports and Social Club at around 9.50pm this evening (29/09).

“A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are believed to be life-threatening.

“At this stage no arrests have been made, but officers, assisted by the police helicopter, are carrying out detailed enquiries.

“We are aware that people living in the town will notice a police presence and we want to provide reassurance that there is not believed to be any risk to the wider public.

“Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting log 300 of today.”
