A 72-year-old man fell through a farmhouse roof in North Wiltshire this morning.
Emergency services responded to reports of a casualty having fallen through the roof of a building in Hayes Knoll, Purton Stoke, at before 11am.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance was tasked to the scene, landing just 20 metres from Dudgemoor Farm, where local ambulance crews were already on the injured man.
The patient reportedly fell off of a telehandler – a telescopic forklift – through the roof and into the first-floor bedroom of the farmhouse which is currently under renovation.
Fire crews from Swindon, Stratton and Westlea, an aerial platform appliance and two senior fire officers attended the incident.
The call initially came in as a building collapse, meaning a significant number of emergency vehicles were deployed. Many, including an Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team, were stood down en-route.
The 72-year-old man, said to have suffered multiple serious injuries, was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: “We attended a property in Purton Stoke at 10.45am this morning to assist the ambulance service, they had been called to a man who had fallen through the roof of a property under renovation.
“He was within the property on the first floor, and crews helped to carry him outside.
“Two fire engines, one from Stratton and one from Westlea, attended together with the aerial ladder platform from Swindon – this wasn’t needed in the end.”
