A lorry driver has been arrested after five suspected illegal immigrants were found following reports of people disembarking a trailer in Swindon.

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of illegal entry into the UK near the B&Q distribution centre shortly after midday.

It’s said a member of the public witnessed a lorry, which appeared to have a hole cut in the roof of the trailer, pull up near the in Swindon.

A number of men exit from the back of the trailer, with one man remaining on the roof. The driver and one other man were arrested at the scene.

Officers located four men nearby shortly afterwards who were arrested on suspicion of illegal entry into the UK.

A drone unit was tasked to support the local units to search for two further men who may still be at large, police say.

Insp Louis McCoy said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may know where these remaining men might be.

“Whilst we believe they may have illegally entered the UK, we are also concerned for their welfare. If you do see them, please let us know immediately.”

Anyone with information should call 999 quoting log 103 of today (19/03).
