Great Britain urged to join in Clap For Heroes as we begin third national lockdown

People across Great Britain are being urged to join in Clap For Heroes on Thursday.

The weekly appreciation clap is brought to you by the team behind Clap For Our Carers, the original Thursday at 8pm applause that ran across the UK for ten weeks during the first national lockdown in 2020.

This time around, the founder wants to widen the campaign message by updating and refreshing our movement’s name to Clap For Heroes to reflect the millions of heroes that keep the country going and have endured such challenging times.

A spokesperson for the campaign said: “When we first started clapping for our incredible NHS staff, care workers and key workers last March, none of us had any expectation that we would be in an even worse situation nine months later.

“Last year the weekly applause united communities and had us talking to our neighbours whilst we acknowledged the immense sacrifices our carers were making. They were and still are heroes, but this time round we also want to recognise, remember and celebrate all of our heroes, including those most dear to us.

“The first Clap For Our Carers applause on 26th March 2020 captured the spirit of the nation and was a huge success up and down the country.

“The weekly 8pm applause then continued to grow in popularity and interaction over ten weeks, swiftly becoming an established part of our lives through lockdown – uniting communities, public figures and news broadcasters in their support.

“This Thursday at 8pm we want the whole country to unite again (wearing masks and at a safe social distance from neighbours) clapping and banging pots and pans, getting the kids involved (who have also been heroes after all) and dedicating a few moments to thinking about the heroes directly in their own lives, those whom they have personally found to be just incredible individuals over the last nine months.

“We all need to stay connected and be there for each other and we all deserve a round of applause for what we have gone through and can expect from the coming months.”
