After bringing forward a review of the tier allocations in England, the government has today announced that Swindon will be moved into Tier 3 on Boxing Day.

It follows a recent sharp rise in Swindon’s case rate from 107.6 per 100,000 on 12 December to 191.7 per 100,000 today. There have been 426 new COVID-19 cases in Swindon over the past 7 days.

This means that from 00:01am on Boxing Day:

❌ You can’t mix indoors, in private gardens or in most outdoor venues, except with your household or bubble.

✅ You can meet in a group of up to six in other outdoor spaces, such as parks and playgrounds.

❌ You must avoid travelling outside of Swindon as much as possible except for work, education, medical attention or if you have caring responsibilities.

✅ Shops, gyms and personal care services (such as hairdressing) can stay open, as can swimming pools.

❌ Bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants must stay closed, except for delivery and takeaway. Food or alcohol purchased can’t be consumed on any part of those premises, including beer gardens.

❌ Bowling alleys, cinemas, theatres and indoor play areas must close.

✅ Collective worship can take place – with no mixing outside your bubble.

✅ Weddings and civil partnership ceremonies can take place with up to 15 guests, receptions are not permitted.

✅ Funerals can continue with up to 30 in attendance, 15 people can attend wakes or linked ceremonial events.

❌ Sports fans cannot attend events in stadiums.

❌ Indoor entertainment venues – such as bowling alleys and cinemas must stay closed.
