A employee of a Wessex Water approved contractor has been caught on camera driving while talking on his mobile phone on a busy Chippenham A-road.

Lynwood Civil Engineering’s flat-bed lorry was seen on the A420 Bristol Road – near to the roundabout with Hardenhuish Lane – at around 4.30pm this afternoon, Monday 19 June.

The road was busy and traffic was moving slowly; traffic was not stationary at the time.

The large white flat-bed lorry was just metres from a pedestrian crossing, used by children accessing nearby fields, at the time of the driver using their mobile phone.

The Wessex Water approved contractor told Wiltshire 999s: “Our driver’s actions were against the law and against company policy; we will be investigating.

“Unfortunately, we cannot comment further while a police investigation is ongoing, however, we apologies to the public on behalf of the driver.”

We have approached Wiltshire Police for comment.
