Wiltshire Police is being urged to do something about children cycling on an active railway line near Swindon, despite a “telling off” over the weekend.

Workers at Swindon and Cricklade Railway caught a group of friends – thought to be around ten-years-old – riding bicycles along the tracks near Clifford’s Crossing.

Despite being given strong words of advice by the team on the site, he later returned and risked his life on the live lines once again.

The charity says they will be “pushing for prosecution”, with evidence of the incidents sent to the police. They suggested a PCSO get in touch to “discuss options”.

Thousands of pounds are being spent on repairing broken gates, fences and signage – most of which has been caused by trespassers.

“All money that we try to keep saving to make the railway a more secure place”, a spokesperson said. Adding: “The railway can be a dangerous place, it is NOT abandoned.”

CCTV cameras installed in trees were recently discovered and damaged.
