A cyclist involved in a hit-and-run in Devizes sustained a broken pelvis and shoulder when he was thrown more than ten metres down a main road on impact.

Wiltshire Police are continuing their search for the vehicle which failed to stop at the scene following the crash on the A361 Caen Hill at around 10.20pm on Wednesday.

An updated description of the car involved in the serious collision now suggests it may have been a dark grey metallic-coloured Audi A3 with roof bars. The car will have also been without its nearside wing mirror, which was found at the crash site.

Photographs taken at the scene by Wiltshire 999s’ photographer Estelle Legg appear to show that the cyclist’s bicycle – which was badly damaged in the incident – was equipped with working lights.

At the weekend, police have investigated a report received as a direct result of Wiltshire 999s coverage. An Audi’s was spotted in parked near The Shambles Market with front-end damage, ‘fixed’ with duct tape. Officers found this wasn’t the vehicle involved.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The incident took place at approximately 10.25pm on Wednesday (26/08) at the bottom of Caen Hill.

“A dark grey Audi with silver roof bars was in collision with a cyclist who suffered serious leg injuries. He required hospital treatment.

“The driver of the Audi failed to stop and left the scene.

“We are asking for anyone who may have seen the collision or has since seen a grey metallic Audi with significant damage, particularly to the wing mirror, to contact us on 101 and quote crime reference number 54200085679.”
