Armed police officers were deployed to the ‘sound of gunshots’ in Yarnbrook late last night.

The police helicopter was overhead for 45 minutes as it responded to the report at 9.45pm.

A Wiltshire 999s associate passing along Westbury Road witnessed saw officers surround a property with their weapons drawn.

Police soon ascertained that the sounds were caused by fireworks.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “You may have heard the police helicopter in the Westbury area last night, so we want to provide some reassurance about the incident they were dealing with.

“At around 9.45pm last night (21/07) we received a call from a member of the public concerned that they had heard gunshots in the Yarnbrook area.

“Due to the nature of the call, armed response officers attended and were supported by the police helicopter.

“Officers spoke to the occupants of an address in Westbury Road and determined that the sounds had been caused by fireworks.

“All was in order and no further police attendance was required.”
