Armed police officers were called in to assist the ambulance service at a mental health-related incident in Chippenham on Sunday afternoon.

A huge number of emergency service vehicles – including two specialist ambulance Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) – attended the scene in Warwick Close at around 4.30pm.

One casualty was taken to Royal United Hospital in Bath by land ambulance, with local paramedics being accompanied by critical care medics during the transfer to the hospital.

Wiltshire Police wouldn’t confirm the exact circumstances faced at the scene but said nobody other than the patient involved was injured in the medical incident.

Two Incident Response Units (HART vehicles), an ambulance and six police cars were later seen parked in Sainsbury’s car park following the incident.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended the incident, landing in Levi’s Park

HART medics, based out of Bristol and Exeter in Devon, are usually sent to rescue-related incidents where the casualty has suffered injuries in hazardous or difficult circumstances.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed in Levi’s Park, off Sarum Road, taking off at around 5.45pm.
