Wiltshire Air Ambulance crossed the county border into Bath yesterday afternoon after a casualty was spotted in the River Avon.

Emergency services were called to the incident in the Halfpenny Bridge area near Bath Spa train station at around 3.30pm, sparking a multi-agency response.

Critical care medics from Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Great Western Air Ambulance worked alongside specially trained water rescue firefighters from the city.

The male casualty was rescued from the water, with firefighters recovering him from a steep bank.

A Bath Fire Station spokesperson branded the incident a “complicated rescue”.

The condition of the casualty is currently unknown.

Just two weeks ago, two Swindon men died in the River Avon when one of the pair tried to save the other – his friend and Tesco colleague – who was drowning during a swim.
