Police officers risked their own lives in an attempt to save a woman from a house fire this morning.

Emergency services were called to an address in Boreham Field, Warminster, just before 3am following a call from a neighbour that a house was on fire and a woman was trapped upstairs.

On arrival at the scene, “without hesitation” officers managed to gain entry into the premises and tried to battle the blaze with the limited firefighting equipment they had available them.

A woman – in her 50s – suffered injuries as a result of the fire. She was taken to the Royal United Hospital where she remains.

Sgt Kevin Harmsworth said: “The officers who initially attended this incident were met with a substantial fire in the upstairs of the address. Without hesitation, they managed to gain entry to the premises and attempted to extinguish the blaze with the limited equipment they had, until the fire service arrived on scene and safely extinguished the blaze.

“All those officers who entered the property were checked over by ambulance colleagues at the scene and fortunately none required medical treatment.

“The cause of this fire is not believed to be suspicious and we wish the occupant of the address a speedy recovery.”
