Detectives in Swindon are investigation an assault in which a man suffered a ‘nasty’ head injury.

The attack, on a 20-year-old man who was walking with his partner, happened between and 8.15pm on Sunday 23 February near to the Moonrakers Pub on Cricklade Road.

The victim – who required stitches in hospital – was assaulted by two males. One of the men hit him over the head with a weapon causing a like wound to the back of the head.

The offenders are believed to have followed the victim through the alleyway from Fairford Crescent to Beechcroft Road – following the assault they then left the scene back through the alleyway towards Penhill.

DS Justin Downes said: “This was an unprovoked assault which left the victim suffering with a nasty head injury. He is understandably shaken and angry that this has happened – we’d like to reassure the public that we will not tolerate violence of this nature on our streets and we are conducting a number of enquiries to identify those responsible.

“As part of our enquiries we have already arrested an 18-year-old local man on suspicion of section 18 GBH – he has been interviewed and released under investigation while our enquiries continue.

“We’d urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have dash cam footage or CCTV footage which could help, to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 and quote crime reference number 54200019106. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
