A car was struck by another while it was stationary following a breakdown on the M4 today.

Moments after the occupants exited the Honda, it was hit by a vehicle in the live lane – causing damage which would have likely seriously injured or killed and backseat passengers.

Specialist roads policing unit officers attended the scene on the Wiltshire stretch of the motorway, and Highways England are said to have removed the vehicle to the hard shoulder using their 4×4.

Posting on social media, an officer said the occupants suffered minor injuries and were “extremely lucky”, but it is not yet clear how these injures were sustained.

The exact time of the incident isn’t currently known. We’ve approached Wiltshire Police for clarification.
