Extra security measures in place as wannabe thieves plan looting event

Extra security measures are being put in place at a Swindon town centre sportswear store this weekend after a looting event was planned on social media.

Unknown wannabe thieves took Snapchat to publicise their plans to loot JD Sports on Canal Walk, stating the date and time of the event, ruling out ‘slow runners’ and ‘loud girls’.

The anonymous group also told people ‘if you get caught it’s on you’ via their social media posts.

The large-scale robbery was planned this weekend but it’s understood security barriers, additional store staff and the police will be on-hand in an attempt to end the event before it even begins.

Some details have not been included in this story to prevent further people from joining the event.

When approached, JD Sports declined to make any statement in relation to the potential raid.

We’ve also approached Wiltshire Police for comment.
